BiographySebastian was born and raised in northern Germany before studying at Göttingen, London and Oxford universities. At the University of Göttingen, he studied philosophy and German language and literature, spending his final year at the Wittgenstein Archives at the University of Bergen, in Norway, where he wrote his BA thesis on Kripke and Wittgenstein on other minds. In 2014, he graduated from Birkbeck, University of London having obtained the degree of Master of Philosophical Studies for a thesis on Plato and Wittgenstein. From 2014 until 2018, he read for the DPhil in Philosophy at the University of Oxford, under the supervision of William Child and Timothy Williamson, and was awarded the doctoral degree for a thesis entitled Skill and Scepticism: An Enquiry Concerning the Nature and Epistemic Value of Intuitive Judgement. He continued at Oxford as Stipendiary Lecturer in Philosophy at Christ Church, before joining Peking University in 2019 as Assistant Professor in Philosophy and Fellow of the Institute of Foreign Philosophy. He has been a tenured Associate Professor since 2026.
