The paper criticises various recent attempts to defend fallibilism about knowledge - the thesis that knowledge is compatible with the chance/possibility of error - from the concern that speakers seem unable to assert (felicitously) that their knowledge is fallible. The paper introduces a number of specific objections, and also raises the concern that fallibilists have, in general, underestimated the extent of the explanatory task they face.
